Google Drive workflows

What this guide helps you do

Use FileLever with Google Drive content that the Google Drive desktop/client has already synced to a folder on your computer. Those folders behave like regular local folders for preview-first folder sync, exact duplicate review, and large-file cleanup.

Important limit

FileLever does not connect directly to your Google Drive cloud account to sync or delete remote files over the Drive API.

Direct cloud access would require broad Drive-level permissions and Google’s App Defense Alliance CASA assessment. Until that path is available, the supported workflow is:

1. Install Google Drive for desktop if you do not already have it.
2. Sync the Drive folders you care about to your computer with that client.
3. Choose those local sync folders in FileLever like any other local folder.
4. Review and confirm sync, duplicate cleanup, or large-file actions.
5. Let the Google Drive client reconcile local changes with your Drive account.

What FileLever supports

Once a Google Drive folder is available locally through Google’s client, FileLever supports it for:

• Folder Sync
• Duplicate File Finder
• Large File Reviewer

Treat the local Drive sync folder as an ordinary filesystem location. Pair it with another local folder, another Drive sync folder, an external drive, or a backup archive the same way you would with any other local path.

Choose the right Google Drive workflow

• Compare or update a folder: use Folder Sync after the Drive folder is available locally, then choose copy/update or mirror from the preview.
• Remove repeated files: use Duplicate File Finder to confirm exact matches before choosing which local copy remains.
• Recover storage: use Large File Reviewer to inspect large local Drive files by path and purpose before moving or deleting them.

If you need a direct remote integration instead of a locally synced folder, use the Dropbox workflows path.

What stays review-first

Google Drive support does not turn FileLever into a background sync service. The workflow remains deliberate:

1. Make sure the Google Drive client has synced the folders you need locally.
2. Choose those folders in FileLever.
3. Review the preview, duplicate groups, or size-ranked results.
4. Confirm the action you want.
5. Let FileLever complete only the approved local action.

Cleanup behavior

Deletes, moves, and sync writes in FileLever are local filesystem actions on the folder you selected.

If that folder is managed by the Google Drive client, Google’s client is what later updates the cloud copy. FileLever does not send files to Drive Trash through a remote API.

Practical tips

• Download Drive for desktop from Google’s official page: google.com/drive/download.
• Prefer streaming/available-offline settings in the Google Drive client for folders you plan to compare, hash, or clean up in FileLever, so the files are actually present on disk.
• If a file is cloud-only placeholders rather than downloaded content, wait for the Google Drive client to make it available locally before relying on hash confirmation or byte-level duplicate checks.
• Keep FileLever’s privacy model clear: workflows run on your machine against local folders. FileLever does not upload your filenames or file contents to FileLever servers for these workflows.

Folder Sync expectations

With locally synced Google Drive folders, Folder Sync still separates:

• files to sync
• target-only files
• unchanged files

Copy/update keeps target-only files. Mirror can remove target-only files after review, using ordinary local delete behavior for that folder.

Duplicate and large-file expectations

In locally synced Google Drive folders:

• Duplicate File Finder still confirms exact matches before cleanup.
• Large File Reviewer still lets you review path, size, and purpose before move or delete actions.
• Open/reveal actions use the local file on disk, the same as any other local folder.
